The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) cited Masaligsig Creek in Barangay San Isidro, Parañaque as champion in the 4th Gawad Taga-Ilog: Search for the Most Improved Estero in Metro Manila during the awarding rites at Radisson Hotel in Quezon City on March 21.
Parañaque Mayor Eric Olivarez said the search for the most improved estero in Metro Manila is an initiative of the DENR-National Capital Region (NCR) to acknowledge the efforts of local government units and barangays in maintaining cleanliness and minimizing trash in waterways.
He said it also recognizes the LGUs' active involvement in the rehabilitation of Manila Bay.
The mayor added the program also aims to foster a change in the mindset and behavior of Metro Manila residents regarding their responsibility in preserving and managing waterways.
Olivarez said the award was received by San Isidro Barangay Chairman Noel Japlos and Mark Allen Besa, officer-in-charge of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).
