Ilocos police chief Police Brig. Gen.  Lou F. Evangelista said the deployment of 1,582 police officers is part of their comprehensive security plan implemented by the Regional Committee for Ligtas Sumvac 2024.

They will be complemented by an additional 201 personnel from the National Support Unit and 924 from the Reactionary Standby Support Force, ensuring a robust security presence, particularly in the region's 186 tourist destinations.

“We anticipate a high volume of visitors and residents traveling back to their hometowns for the Lenten season," said Evangelista.

"PRO-1 is committed to maintaining peace and order across the Ilocos region. We will work tirelessly to prevent untoward incidents and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, especially those observing the solemnity of the Holy Week," he added.

The region will be under full alert status starting Holy Monday until May 31.

Evangelista said the Regional Committee for Ligtas Sumvac 2024 is firmly committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all residents and tourists throughout the summer season.

Police encouraged the people to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activities to authorities.

The committee is headed by Police Col. Emmanuel H. Reyes,  acting deputy regional director for operations, with the four police provincial directors of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan as members.
