Clark International Airport (CIA) will soon welcome the expansion of United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS), making Clark a premier logistics hub for global brands.
The Luzon International Premiere Airport Development Corp. (LIPAD) recently signed a partnership agreement to upgrade UPS’ operations in Clark, which increases their portfolio on integrated express, supply chain, and healthcare logistics services.
According to the CIA, the expansions are expected to start by February 2025 and will be operational before yearend 2026.
LIPAD President and Chief Executive Officer Noel Manankil said the deal would launch Clark into a platform for international firms and brands that want to grow their global presence in the Philippines.
“This expansion is part of the efforts of LIPAD in project land development, as stipulated in its concession agreement with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority [BCDA],” he added.
“This has taken the value of its investment commitments in Asia Pacific to over $250M since the start of 2023,” CIA reported.
UPS Asia Pacific President Wilfredo Ramos also shared his sentiments on expanding the company in the Philippines since they began their business in the country for the past 25 years.
“The investments UPS continues to make through this expansion will enhance time in transit across Asia Pacific and continue to deliver service reliability for our customers and position UPS for long-term growth,” he explained.
With Asia Pacific being one of the fastest growing regions operating the logistics firm, Ramos stated, “UPS has continued to invest in our network to maximize speed and flexibility, build solutions addressing the shift of global trade lanes, and offer resilience for our customers.”
Josephine Gotianun-Yap, LIPAD chairperson also lauded the UPS deal, as she trusts that this would pose a positive impact on Pampanga by generating more employment opportunities for the community, as well as serve as an “economic stimulus” within Clark.
The UPS expansion deal is one of the recent network and facility enhancements of the logistics corp. has done among other neighboring countries like Singapore, Japan, China, Vietnam, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hongkong.
The company also shared that they will inaugurate a state-of-the-art facility by 2028.
Likewise, the UPS continues to invest in the healthcare business since 2022, proving temperature-sensitive, and patient critical products across the Asia Pacific Region.
