CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Troops recovered firearms and explosives owned by the New People’s Army (NPA) in Sitio Ubo, Barangay Kalangay, Lucban, Quezon on Thursday, March 20.

Police Major Marnie Abellanida, Lucban police chief, said they received information from a former communist guerrilla that war materials were buried in the area.
The 1st Quezon Provincial Mobile Force Company, Lucban Municipal Police Station, Provincial Explosive Canine Unit-Quezon, and 59th Infantry Battalion proceeded to the area and discovered a caliber .38 revolver, ammunition, and a 40mm high explosive grenade.
These were owned by the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee (STRPC) 4-A operating in Quezon and Laguna.
Meanwhile, an NPA fighter surrendered to authorities on Thursday in Barangay Matabungkay, Lian, Batangas.
Ka Toni turned over a caliber .38 revolver with bullets and a grenade. He received P3,000 and groceries worth P1,500 as initial assistance.
Ka Toni is under the custody of 403rd A Maneuver Company for processing and documentation.
