Couple attacked by riding-in-tandem in Antipolo City; one dead, one wounded

A man was killed while his wife was wounded after a riding in tandem fired at their vehicle in Barangay Mayamot, Antipolo City on March 20, the Rizal Police Provincial Office (Rizal PPO) said.

The victims were identified as Abad Antonius Lazaro and Grace Lazaro. They are residents of Broadway Pines Village, also in Barangay Mayamot.

According to Police Regional Office (PRO) 4A Regional Director Brig. Gen. Paul Kenneth Lucas, the victims were cruising along Soliven Street in Barangay Mayamot on their black Honda Jazz when two men riding on a motorcycle suddenly approached their vehicle and fired shots at them.

Abad was instantly killed in the attack while Grace suffered injuries on her left leg.

The police said the still unidentified assailants immediately fled towards the direction of Masinag, Antipolo City. Authorities are now conducting a backtracking of CCTV footages and interviewing witnesses for the identification of the suspects and pursue them through a dragnet operation.

"We will not stop until we hold the suspects accountable for the shooting of the couple in Antipolo.  Right now, I have directed an in-depth investigation on the case to identity the suspects and the possible motives," Lucas said.

The official also called on the cooperation of Antipolenyos and nearby areas to report any information regarding the identity of the suspects.

“Our police personnel will focus on this investigation and we will exert all our efforts to immediately resolve this case. Hinihingi din namin ang suporta ng publiko upang madakip ang mga suspek sa insidenteng ito at mabigyan ng hustisya ang mga biktima at ang kanilang pamilya (We are asking for the public's support to successfully apprehend the suspects of this incident and bring justice to the victims and their family)," the director noted.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Antipolo City Police are still conducting follow-up operations against the suspects while Rizal PPO's Forensic Group was requested to conduct a technical investigation.
