Chief Insp. Stephen Jardeleza, city fire marshal, said about five grass fire incidents are reported here every day.
Jardeleza said that human activities like throwing of cigarette butts on grasses can cause fire and the effects of the El Niño phenomenon aggravate grass fires.
He said they are planning to conduct controlled burning of grasslands here to prevent the occurrence of grass fires as they will be able to contain it beforehand.
Jardeleza said they will coordinate with barangays and land owners to be able to implement these measures.
He said that information dissemination on fire safety and prevention continues for people’s awareness.
The BFP has launched the Reels-On-The-Bus Fire Safety Advocacy Campaign in partnership with the Negros East Transport Service Cooperative (NETSCO) and the city government to promote fire safety awareness among commuters here.
The campaign is a 30-second fire safety advocacy video, played 120 times each day, in all six modernized jeepneys operated by NETSCO traversing the Mansilingan-Downtown Area and vice versa route, ensuring a maximum exposure to approximately 350 to 400 passengers per modernized jeepney.
"This leverages the ubiquity of public transportation to deliver vital fire safety messages to our community," Jardeleza said.
