CAVITE – Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo’s 155th birth anniversary was commemorated in his hometown, Kawit, on Friday, March 22.

The wreath-laying ceremony in Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine streamed live through Facebook, was led by Aguinaldo’s descendants as well as government officials, including Mayor Angelo G. Aguinaldo, National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chairperson Emmanuel Calairo, Cavite 1st District Rep. Jolo Revilla, and guest of honor Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin "Benhur" C. Abalos, Jr.

During his speech, Abalos encouraged the community to take inspiration from Aguinaldo’s life as they faced their own battles.
“Sana maging leksyon itong buhay ni Aguinaldo, na basta ikaw ay naniniwala sa inyong gustong mangyari, ‘wag kang matakot. Maski anong hamon, ito’y kakayanin (I hope the life of Aguinaldo becomes a lesson, that as long as you believe in what you want to happen, don't be afraid. No matter the challenge, it can be overcome),” Abalos said.

“Let us remember the struggles, challenges, and triumphs of our heroes, including Emilio Aguinaldo – they are not just relics of the past but the beacons for the future.”
After the program, the DILG, along with Mayor Aguinaldo, held a press conference for its Buhay Ingatan at Droga’y Ayawan (BIDA) program at Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine.
The Office of the President declared March 22 a special non-working day in Cavite through Proclamation No. 492, to give Caviteños an opportunity to participate in activities to honor the first President of the Philippine Republic.
