A little over half of Filipinos in favor of Cha-cha — survey

About 52 percent of Filipinos said the Philippines should undergo Charter change (Cha-cha), a survey conducted by big data research firm Tangere.
Based on the survey results released on Friday, March 22, 14 percent of Filipinos "strongly agree," while 38 percent "somewhat agree" with proposed Constitutional amendments.
Meanwhile, 13 percent "somewhat disagree" and 10 percent "strongly disagree" with the Cha-cha initiatives.
The remaining 25 percent were unsure whether to support or oppose the Cha-cha proposal.
Metro Manila (55 percent) and Southern Luzon and Bicol Region (55 percent) had the highest support for Cha-cha initiatives, while Mindanao (50 percent) had the lowest support.
“There is parity levels of support across all age groups but directionally lower for respondents aged 36 years old and above,” Tangere said in its report.
“The level of support for Charter Change is also higher for the upper income classes who identified themselves as knowledgeable about the 1987 constitution,” it added.
Tangere also found that 51 percent of Filipinos agreed that the government should recognize the validity of a recent people's initiative for Cha-cha.
Moreover, 55 percent of respondents believe that the Senate and Congress should vote together to amend the 1987 Constitution.
Tangere’s March 2024 Public Opinion Survey on the Level of Support for Charter Change and the People's Initiative was conducted using a mobile-based respondent application, with a sample size of 1,500 participants.
The margin of error is +/-2.53 percent, with a 95 percent confidence level.
The proportion was spread across the Philippines, with 12 percent coming from Metro Manila, 23 percent from Northern Luzon, 22 percent from Southern Luzon, 20 percent from Visayas, and 23 percent from Mindanao.
