Vice President Sara Duterte denied there are current talks for her and former president Rodrigo Duterte to run under a Duterte-Duterte banner in the 2028 national elections.

In a media interview in Cambodia, the official stressed that she and her father have never talked about politics even before he won as president in 2016.
“Hindi ko alam kung sila ay may pag-uusap kasi wala naman ako doon, hindi ko narinig, so hindi ko alam ang pag-uusap ni Atty. Panelo at former president Duterte (I don’t know if they had talks like that because I wasn’t there, I didn’t hear it, so I don’t know what Atty. Panelo and former president Duterte talked about),” she said when asked about Panelo’s statement that he would support the Duterte-Duterte tandem.
The vice president referred to a statement she made on Tuesday, March 19, about not discussing politics with the former chief executive.
“Ganun po talaga iyong relationship namin before 2016, bago pa man siya naging pangulo. Noong naging pangulo na siya hanggang ngayon, hindi ganyan ang relationship namin ni (That’s how our relationship has always been even before 2016, before he became president. When he became president until now, that’s not how my relationship is with) former president Rodrigo Duterte,” she explained.
“Hindi kami nag-uusap ng politika kapag kami ay magkakakasama din. Lagi iyong mga concerns ng kaniya-kaniyang pamilya iyong napag-uusapan (We don’t even talk about politics when we’re together. We just talk about the concerns of our families),” Duterte added.
She also said that she hasn’t discussed her stand on national issues with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., her running mate during the 2022 elections.
Questions about the Vice President’s political stance came after she attended a prayer rally for Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) founder and leader Apollo Quiboloy, whose supporters have been attacking the First Couple and demanding for Marcos’ resignation.
She previously claimed she still enjoys a good relationship with the President despite her father’s and brothers’ tirade against him.
The seemingly falling out between the country’s top two officials is reportedly a product of a rift between Duterte and House Speaker Martin Romualdez, the President’s cousin, due to an alleged failed coup attempt by former president and now Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Gloria Arroyo against the House leadership.
