CEBU CITY – A Cebu-born Golden Retriever made his fur parents proud after he won a prestigious award in a national competition in Manila.
Barnum, owned, bred, and handled by Cebuano businessman and sportsman Michael Aldeguer together with Caren Tudtud, won the “Best in Specialty Show” award during the inaugural Golden Retriever National Specialty Show last March 3 at the PCCI Events Center in Manila.

The event was organized by the Golden Retriever Club Inc. Philippines and the Philippine Canine Club Inc.
Michael Faulkner, a renowned breeder from the United States, was the competition’s judge.
A beautiful rosette donated by the Golden Retriever Club of America headed by president Patricia McCave was awarded by Faulkner to Barnum.
Barnum comes from a winning breed. His father also won the “National Specialty Award” in a 2017 competition in the US.
Aldeguer plans to showcase Barnum in the biggest Golden Retriever Show in Massachusetts, United States in October.
He made a name for himself in the sport of boxing as the Chief Executive Officer and President of ALA Promotions. Unknown to many, his passion was breeding Golden Retrievers and a staunch dog show aficionado.
Aldeguer, whose family owns one of the country’s top clothing lines, established his kennel, Golden Hills, in 1992. Together with Tudtud, who joined Golden Hills in 2015, Aldeguer is looking to breed more quality Goldens to improve his current breed.
