DPWH to activate 'Lakbay Alalay' road assistance for Holy Week break
By Trixee Rosel
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will reactivate its “Lakbay Alalay” roadside assistance program to address the expected surge of motorists along key routes for this year’s observance of Holy Week.
Lakbay Alalay will start at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Mar. 28, until 5 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 29. to maintain smooth traffic flow on national highways as large volumes of vehicles are expected during the Holy Week long weekend.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan has directed all regional and district engineering offices nationwide to make sure that signs and pavement markings along national roads have been properly installed, as well as warning signs and proper markings set up in all ongoing road-improvement projects.
The installation of these markings and signs will secure the safe arrival of motorists and tourists—both local and foreign—to their destinations, particularly along vital routes leading to churches, for the protection of those embarking on Visita Iglesia, according to Bonoan.
Blue-colored Lakbay Alalay tents were also put up where the travelling public can seek help for maintenance equipment.
According to the agency, Lakbay Alalay is reactivated "each time there is a prolonged holiday."
