Buko vendor killed in collision with pickup truck in Manila
A 60-year-old coconut vendor died after his bike collided with a pickup truck in San Andres Bukid, Manila on Thursday, March 21.

The Manila Police District-Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit (MPD-MDTEU) identified the pickup driver as Ariven De Vera, 49, a resident of Parañaque City.
Based on the police investigation and footage from closed-circuit television (CCTV) from Barangay 750, police said the victim, Antonio Gerale, was heading westbound along San Andres Street in San Andres Bukid at around 1:30 a.m. to buy coconuts that he will use to sell.
The vendor was seen in the CCTV as he was about to approach the intersection. The traffic light in his direction was red or "stop" yet he continued to pedal.
The pickup truck was seen traveling southward on Osmeña Highway and once it reached the intersection, the front portion of the vendor's bicycle crashed into the left side portion of the pickup truck.
Due to the strong impact, they said the vendor was thrown off his bike and fell into the ground which resulted in a head injury that caused his immediate death.
The MPD-MDTEU said the vendor was brought to Ilagan Memorial Chapels while the pickup truck driver will undergo inquest proceedings.
