The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) announced the arrest of a man who tried to sell a stolen motorcycle on Monday, March 18.
Police identified the suspect as Windel Salaza, 27, a resident of Barangay San Isidro Labrador, Quezon City.
Based on the police report, the victim immediately sought help from the District Anti-Carnapping Unit (DACU) after he received information regarding the location of his motorcycle that was posted for sale on social media.
Posing as a potential buyer, a police officer arranged a meeting with Salaza in Makati City.
However, Salaza changed the meeting location to Mayon St. corner Maria Clara St., San Isidro Labrador in Quezon City.
Upon receiving the information, police operatives, accompanied by the victim, proceeded to the new location at around 6:40 p.m. on March 18. The victim positively identified his motorcycle being driven by Salaza.
Approaching the suspect, the police requested documents of the vehicle, which Salaza failed to provide.
He was arrested on the spot.
During the investigation, Salaza revealed that the recovered vehicle belonged to a certain Robert Queri who is now the subject of a manhunt operation.
The arrested suspect, along with his accomplice who is still at large, will face charges for violating Republic Act 10883, also known as the New Anti-Carnapping Act, police said.
QCPD director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan commended the operatives of DACU for their swift action that led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the motorcycle.
“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa biktima sa tiwala na binigay niya sa ating kapulisan, at sa mga gumagawa ng masama at labag sa batas, magsilbi sanang babala ito na kailanman ay hindi matatakasan ang mahabang kamay ng batas (We are thankful to the victim for the trust he has given to our police force, and to those who commit wrongdoings and go against the law, may this serve as a warning that they can never escape the long arms of the law),” he said.
