Highly-touted recruit Noy Remogat believes he has a strong shot at the UAAP crown with University of the Philippines when he becomes eligible to play for the Fighting Maroons in Season 88.
The 20-year-old guard will redshirt the upcoming season this year but will be expected to step up for the State U with two more playing years to exhaust.
Remogat revealed that his desire to win a collegiate title spurred his decision to leave University of the East Red Warriors in a shock move after two season earlier this year.

In Season 86, which was Remogat’s second and last time suiting up for UE, he averaged 16.5 points, 6.36 rebounds, 8.57 assists and 2.0 steals per game to become the next best thing just behind runaway Most Valuable Player Kevin Quiambao of De La Salle.
The 5-foot-10 floor general grabbed the opportunity to make his dream happen when the Fighting Maroons lured him to their side with a promise of a decorated collegiate career.
“Siguro ‘yung pinaka dahilan talaga is gusto ko rin makaranas ng championship. Parang mas na-feel ko rin before [I made the decision] na UP ‘yung makakapagbigay sa akin ng magandang environment and culture within the team,” Remogat said during the official announcement of Bank of the Philippines Islands’ (BPI) partnership with the UP men’s basketball team on Monday, March 18, at the Executive House in UP Diliman.
“Sobrang thankful ako sa kanila kasi parang hindi ako bago. ‘Yung pag welcome nila sa akin parang hindi sila nagdalawang isip. Pinaparamdam agad nila sa akin na pamilya ‘yung turing sa akin,” he added.
Remogat said settling in with the Fighting Maroons came smoothly as he was instantly treated like a family.
“Sa residency ko ‘yun naman ‘yung plan namin [for me to] practice coach [Goldwin Monteverde’s] system and gel with the team. Hindi naman sila dapat ‘yung mag-adjust, ako dapat ‘yung dapat mag-adjust kasi ako ‘yung bagong player, bagong dating. Lahat ‘yun trabaho ko talaga. Mag-adjust sa system ni coach Gold and with the team. Ako ‘yung parang makikisama,” he detailed.
Aside from his efforts to get along with UP’s holdovers, Remogat also reunited with big man Gani Stevens, whom he was teammates with in UE during their debut – making it all the more such a breeze.
“Sobrang saya [to reunite with Gani Stevens] kasi nung time na usap usapan pa lang [‘yung paglipat ko, we were already chatting and he was asking] ano raw ‘yung plano ko. Pero hindi ko pa sinabi [at the time] siyempre. Eventually nung final na ‘yung decision and pagpunta ko nung practice tuwang tuwa siya. Parang batang talon ng talon ‘yung pagsalubong sa akin. Sobrang nakakatuwa kasi before may chemistry na kami, so pwede nami ituloy at pwede kaming makakuha ng championship,” he said.
Whatever UP is doing with its basketball program, it is doing everything right following three consecutive appearances in the UAAP championship series, even ruling Season 84 after a 36-year drought.
