Lowering the country’s crime rate through lawful means is possible.
This was Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA) Party-list Rep. Margarita "Migs" Nograles' main takeaway from reports that the Marcos administration has successfully reduced the crime rate, as well as cases of human rights violations.
"Congratulations to this administration for doing that, na kaya naman pala di ba (this shows that it's doable)," Nograles, a House deputy majority leader, said in a press conference Tuesday, March 19.
"Yuu don't take the laws into your own hands. You do not violate the laws dapat, so nakakatuwa (so I'm delighted)," added the Davao-based congresswoman.
Nograles was alluding to the comparison between the anti-criminality campaigns of President Marcos and his direct predecessor, former president Rodrigo Duterte. This was discussed earlier in the same presser.
According to Nograles, it's easily observable that there are no major crimes or disturbance in the country.
"Makikita natin, kung walang gulo, walang krimen, peaceful, mas mapa-prioritize natin ano bang nakakabuti sa taong bayan (We can see that it there's no chaos, no crime, and it's peaceful, then we can prioritize what's good for the country).

"And that's exactly what we're doing here and at least now di ba, makita natin hindi galit talaga mga tao, walang krimen, walang gulo (at least now, we can see that the people aren't angry, there's no crime, there's no chaos)," she said.
"We can hopefully work together in a peaceful country and kami dito sa Kongreso, mas talagang makaka-focus kaming lahat, tayong lahat sa kung anong pwede nating magawa para maibalik sa taong bayan,"
(As for us in Congress, we will all be able to focus more on what we can do for the country.)
The previous Duterte administration was known for its bloody war against illegal drugs.
