Gunman chasing foe accidentally kills trike driver in Manila
Police arrested a gunman who accidentally killed a tricycle driver while shooting his real target in San Andres Bukid, Manila on Thursday, February 29.
The Manila Police District (MPD) identified the suspect as Vergilio Celis Jr., 32, a resident of San Andres Bukid.
According to witnesses, at around 12:45 a.m. on Thursday, the suspect was seen chasing his foe, Ferdinand Fontanilla, along Onyx Street in San Andres.
They said the suspect fired his gun successively, wounding Fontanilla in the back.
One of the bullets, however, hit Gonzalo Pacheco who was having a drinking session with his relatives on the street.
The suspect tried to escape but was cornered and arrested by police officers who were passing by the area.
The victims were rushed to the hospital, but Pacheco was declared dead on arrival due to a gunshot wound in the back. Fontanilla survived.
The suspect is now detained at the MPD custodial facility and facing murder and frustrated murder charges.
