Very uncalled for.
This was how Taguig City 2nd district Rep. Amparo Maria "Pammy" Zamora described the actions of a public school teacher who went viral on social media after publicly scolding students in a TikTok livestream.
“Para sa akin, napasakit ng mga pananalita niya, napaka-uncalled for bilang isang guro,” Zamora said in a press briefing on Tuesday, March 19.
(For me, her words were very painful, very uncalled for as a teacher.)
“Bilang isang guro, dapat nag-practice talaga siya ng self-control. Dapat huminga siya muna nang malalim,” she added.
(As a teacher, she should really practice self-control. She should have taken a deep breath first.)
In atheviral video of the said livestream, the teacher was seen lashing out on her students using foul language.
One of the teacher’s statements particularly raised the ire of Zamora. It was when the former berated the students and described them as having “ugaling iskwater” (squatter mentality), which likens their behavior to that of impoverished informal settlers.
“To the effect, sinabi niyang walang karapatan ang mga estudyante kasi mahihirap sila,” the lawmaker pointed out.
(She says the students have no rights because they are poor.)
“Kaya nga siya yung nagtuturo eh para matuto yung mga bata. Paano pa sila matututo kung ganon yung klase ng pagtuturo?” she stressed.
(That's why she is the one who teaches so that the children can learn. How can they learn if that's her kind of teaching?)
Zamora adivsed the teacher to always take the high road even if her students were not behaving properly.
The Department of Educatiion (DepEd) issued a show-cause order to the teacher on Monday. She was given 72 hours or three days to explain her actions.
“Siguro antayin na lang natin yung napakaganda niyang paliwanag,” an irate Zamora noted.
(Maybe we should just wait for her wonderful explanation.)
