The Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) gears up for its final push of sending more athletes to the Paris Olympics after two Filipino boxers recently earned their respective spots through a qualification tournament in Italy.

With Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas punching their tickets to Paris in the first qualifiers held in Busto Arsizio, Italy, the remaining Olympic hopefuls will be tested for the last time in Bangkok, Thailand from May 23 to June 3.
To keep themselves sharp, ABAP Secretary-General Marcus Manalo said the boxers will fly to the US to join a mini camp and a pocket tournament in Colorado, US from April 14 to 21.
“Tuloy-tuloy pa rin ang mga camps and may mga tournaments pa rin, babalik kaagad sila ng training kasi April 9 na alis na to US Olympic Training Center, para sa isang short training camp,” said Manalo, who was joined by Karina Picson, coaches Reynaldo Galido and Mitchel Martinez in Tuesday's Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum.
The national boxing team is expected to go to Thailand on May 9, which is two weeks earlier than the actual start of the qualifying tournament. Even though already qualified, the hopefuls will be joined by Petecio, Villegas and Eumir Marcial in training.
