Police Lt. Darryl Kuhutan, deputy chief of the Pontevedra Municipal Police Station, said the victim pacified his 36-year-old nephew when he burned his brother’s house.
However, the suspect got unruly even more, until he allegedly stabbed the victim with the steel from a broken umbrella. The suspect also allegedly hit the victim with a stone in the head, according to Kuhutan.
The victim sustained injuries in the head and neck and was taken to Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, where he was declared dead.
Kuhutan said the suspect was alone inside his brother’s house when he torched it as well as some dried banana leaves. The fire left an estimated P30,000 worth of damage.
He said that a missed a dose of medicine caused the suspect to turn violent. It was the first time that the suspect not be pacified, his family said.
The suspect was arrested through the help of the people in the area.
Kuhutan said the victim’s family will no longer pursue the filing of case against the suspect.
