The name of the 16-year-old victim was withheld.
Police Capt. Ar-jay Dangarang, Isabela police chief, said the victim, along with his colleagues in the Citizen Army Training (CAT), went swimming in the river.
However, the victim’s companions did not immediately notice him drowning.
It took them a while to notice him missing and searched for him. The body of the victim later surfaced in the water.
Dangarang believed that the victim may have hit his head upon jumping into the river.
