DOLE reminds job seekers to be wary of online recruitment scams

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has reminded Filipino job applicants to be wary of online recruitment scams posted on different social media platforms.

In an interview with the GMA Integrated News, OIC-Assistant Secretary Patrick P. Patriwirawan, Jr., said several fraudulent online recruitment scams are luring jobseekers with enticing job openings that promise remarkably high salaries, including those without prior work experience.

He added that the modus operandi may harm a considerable number of people, particularly the unemployed.

Based on the January 2024 Labor Force Survey, around 2.7 million people aged 15 to 30 are currently unemployed due to insufficient job qualifications.

However, OIC-Assistant Secretary Patriwirawan, Jr., highlighted the existence of initiatives designed to improve the employability of Filipino job seekers, with a specific focus on the youth.

He also stressed the need for jobseekers to use PhilJobNet for online job applications, as the DOLE guarantees the authenticity of companies advertising job openings on the digital platform.

“Sinisiguro po natin d’yan na itong mga kumpanya ay may lehitimong rehistro, including Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), at may mga other documentary requirements po tayo na hinihingi at nire-review para po maging accredited sila na employer at makapag-post ng vacancies sa ating online platform (We confirm the proper registration of these companies, which includes registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Additionally, we carefully examine the required documentation to validate them as employers and grant them permission to advertise job openings on our digital platform),” Patriwirawan said.

The agency has recommended that job seekers only engage with accredited recruitment agencies or the appropriate government agencies to prevent becoming victims of illegal recruiters.
