ILOILO CITY — Police Col. Joeresty Coronica, police chief here, said there is no reason to be alarmed over the big haul of shabu in this city recently.

“We have to consider that Iloilo City is only a transshipment point and not mainly for consumption in the city,” said Coronica.
Suspected shabu worth P7.1 million was seized from five drug pushers last Monday, March 18, by joint operatives of the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU)-6 of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 and two units of the Iloilo City police.
Coronica explained that the big seizures of shabu in Iloilo City, the regional capital of Western Visayas, were meant to curtail the spread of drug supply to other parts of the region.
“Can you imagine if the shabu was spreading on the streets? Many more would have their futures affected and their lives damaged,” said Coronica.
One of the biggest challenge for the police is intercepting the shabu shipped from Luzon via Roll on, Roll off (RoRo) vessels that arrive at city ports.
Coronica said it is not only the police that can stop this, but also other law enforcement and government agencies.
He lauded the people for providing reliable information that has been used by the police in many anti-drug operations.
