SSHS survived the 32 points of Ethan Kaw to turn back three-seed St. Jude Catholic School, 62-61.
Josh Cedric Ong paced the top-seed Stephenians with 10 points as Bryle Teng and Sam Ng scored eight each.
MGC-NLCA relied on Adam Keith Uy’s 21 points to score a 70-67 victory over Uno High School.
Game One is at 5:30 p.m., with Game Two on Saturday and, if necessary, Game Three on Monday.
