Troops foil NPA plan to disrupt gov't services caravan in Negros Oriental
BACOLOD CITY – The 62nd Infantry Battalion foiled the plan of the New People’s Army (NPA) to disrupt socio-economic programs in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Friday, March 15.
Troops engaged four remnants of the Leonardo Panaligan Command of the NPA under Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros, Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor (LPC-NPA, KR-NCBS) in a gunbattle in the boundaries of Barangays Aya and Talaon in La Libertad, Negros Oriental on Friday night.
The firefight lasted for about three minutes, with no casualties reported on the government side.
Soldiers recovered a 12-gauge shotgun with serviceable ammunition, fired cartridge cases of a shotgun and M16 rifle, subversive documents, and NPA rebels’ personal belongings.

The 303rd Infantry Brigade said the NPA attempt to disrupt the government services caravan in central Negros was stopped due to heightened security measures.
“No matter where these rebels go, the people will always deny them and immediately report their whereabouts,” Lt. Col. Evelio Ilanga III, 62nd IB commander, said in a statement.
