No LRT-1 rides during Holy Week

The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) announced that LRT-1 service operations will be temporarily suspended during the Holy Week to make way for maintenance activities and testing for the ongoing LRT-1 Cavite Extension project.

The closure of the train services will start from Holy Wednesday on March 27 to Easter Sunday on March 31.

Regular operating hours will remain in LRT-1 on Holy Monday (March 25) to Holy Tuesday (March 26), with last trips departing at 10 p.m. from Baclaran Station and 10:15 pm from Fernando Poe Jr. Station.

Normal operations, beginning at 4:30 a.m., will resume on Monday, April 1.

In a statement, LRMC Chief Operating Officer Rolando J. Paulino III said that the company will conduct train movement simulations from Cavite Extension to Gil Puyat Station on the first day of the no-operation period.

“For the remaining days, our Engineering Team will conduct the essential maintenance activities to allow us to improve capacity and performance across the line, enabling us to serve our LRT-1 passengers with a better, more reliable transport system,” Paulino added.

LRMC stressed that the tests are needed in order to meet the target start of Phase 1’s partial operations in the final quarter of this year.

As of January 2024, LRT-1 Cavite Extension is already 97 percent complete, according to the company, with its stations namely Redemptorist Station (93.3 percent) MIA Station (93.5 percent), Asia World Station (83 percent), Ninoy Aquino Station (88 percent), and Dr. Santos Station at (94.1 percent), showing significant progress.

Phase 1 connects Baclaran Station in Pasay City to Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque City.

With its completion, the extension will increase the overall length of the train railway by 6.2 kilometers, which can accommodate over 600,000 daily passengers.
