Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan said the city of Manila is one with the national government in the effort to combat tuberculosis.

On Saturday, March 16, the mayor joined the Department Of Health (DOH) in setting the new Guinness World Record for the largest human image of a lung.

The Philippines broke the world record after Guinness World Records representatives officially counted a total of 5,596 participants joining the lung formation.

"We in the city government of Manila, express our solidarity as we renew our commitment to combating tuberculosis, a global health challenge affecting millions," Lacuna-Pangan said.

Apart from setting a new world record, the event was also aimed at creating awareness about tuberculosis and eliminating the stigma attached to TB patients.

"Together, we pledge awareness, advocate for better healthcare access, and support research for improved treatments and prevention methods. Together, let us stand in solidarity with those affected by TB and strive relentlessly towards a world free from this preventable and treatable disease," Mayor Honey added.

The project, spearheaded by the DOH, was in cooperation with the City of Manila, the United States Agency for International Development, the World Health Organization, and the Philippines Business for Social Progress.

The local chief executive was accompanied by DOH Secretary Ted Herbosa and representatives from various organizations.
