ILOILO CITY – Police Col. Rhea Santos, chief of the Guimaras Police Provincial Office (GPPO), has ordered a deeper probe on the brutal killing of an elderly couple in San Lorenzo, Guimaras.
MAP of Guimaras with the town of San Lorenzo highlighted.
Santos said that the GPPO Investigation Unit and Intelligence Unit are assisting the San Lorenzo police in solving the murders of Nestor Egaran and his wife Remedios, who were both 64-years-old.
The Egarans were found dead on Friday, March 15, outside their house and farm in Barangay Constancia.
The victims sustained wounds that looked like they were beheaded.
Santos said they were shot as seven empty shotgun shells were found nearby. “Whoever killed them had deep-seated anger. By theory, they were shot at close range,” Santos said.
The couple might have been killed days before as their bodies were already in an advanced state of decomposition when they were found and reported to the San Lorenzo Municipal Police Station under Police Capt. Andres Somes.
No one noticed their deaths as the couple were the only persons residing in the 24-hectare farm and the nearest house was more than two kilometers away.
Santos said there is a possibility that they were killed Wednesday afternoon, March 13, when residents heard what they thought were firecrackers exploding.
