Warm easterlies dominate; cold 'amihan' winds to further weaken
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday, March 17, said the easterlies continue to prevail over most parts of the country.

In PAGASA’s latest live broadcast, weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said the northeast monsoon still prevails in the Northern Luzon, however, it may continue to weaken in the following days.
“Simula bukas, araw ng Linggo, inaasahan na natin ang patuloy na paghina ng northeast monsoon o hanging amihan kaya easterlies o hangin na nanggagaling sa karagatang pasipiko ang iiral sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon (Starting tomorrow, Sunday, we expect the continuous weakening of the northeast monsoon or “amihan,” therefore the easterlies or the warm winds from the Pacific Ocean will dominate in huge part of Luzon),” Villamil said.
Villamil added that there will be a rise in the maximum temperature that may be recorded mostly at noon time until the afternoon.
Based on PAGASA’s data, the actual air temperature that ranges for March 17–20 in some key areas are: 24–32°C in Metro Manila, 24-31° in Legazpi City, 15–24°C in Baguio City, 24–31°C in Metro Cebu, 25–32°C in Iloilo City, 23–32°C in Tacloban City, 24–34°C in Metro Davao, 24–34°C in Zamboanga City, and 23–31°C in Cagayan de Oro City.
Meanwhile, in the next 24 hours, PAGASA said Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cagayan Valley will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to “amihan.”
In Metro Manila and the rest of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will be felt due to the easterlies or the warm winds from the Pacific Ocean.
PAGASA warned the public of flash floods or landslides that may occur in the affected areas during severe thunderstorms.
