Mangin came close to an Olympic seat but yielded to Saudi Arabia’s Dunya Abutaleb n the semifinal of the women’s -49kg.

The 17-year-old Valenzuela City native fought Jananese Ruka Okamoto for the bronze medal, but also lost.

Prior to the defeat, Mangin survived seasoned rival Truong Thi Kim Tuyen of Vietnam and Ni Kadek Heni Prikasih.

Alcantara, for his part, was shown the door early in the men’s -68kg quarterfinals after bowing to Ali Reza Abbasi of the IOC Refugee Olympic Team. The Filipino bet couldn’t sustain his momentum from a strong Round of 16 performance where he overpowered Syrian Nouraldin Jaidani.

Only the Top 2 athletes in each division will earn tickets to Paris.

Two other Filipinos are competing for slots in Paris with Olympian Kurt Barbosa competing in the men’s -58kg and Baby Jessica Canabal in the women’s -57kg.

Allain Keanu Ganapin is also seeking for a ticket to the Paralympics when he competes in the K44 men’s -80kg.
