The Senator Cynthia Villar-chaired Committee on Environment will conduct an inspection at Bohol’s Chocolate Hills--the site of the controversial Captain's Peak Resort--during the upcoming Holy Week break.
Thus, bared Senator Nancy Binay, chairperson of the Committee on Tourism, in an interview Friday, March 15.
Binay says Villar's Committee is taking the lead in the Senate investigation on the circumstances surrounding the construction of the resort smack dab in the middle of the famous Chocolate Hills, a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) site.
"Ang committee ho natin ay secondary on referral (Our committee is secondary on referral)," Binay said.
"In fact may commitment na si Senator Villar na during the break--last session na namin sa Wednesday--ay magco-conduct siya ng hearing. At napag-usapan na na during the break, mag-oocular inspection kami sa Bohol," she said.
(In fact, Senator Villar has made a commitment that during the break--it's our last session on Wednesday--we will conduct a hearing. And we've discussed that during the break, we will conduct an ocular inspection in Bohol.)
Earlier, over in the House of Representatives, Speaker Martin Romualdez also ordered a probe on the construction of the resort.
The final session day for both legislative chambers is March 20.
