Leo Aringo unloaded a team-high performance of 20 points off 18 attacks and two blocks, while Jade Disquitado had 19 points and 13 receptions as the Bulldogs tightened their grip of the solo lead with a 6-1 win-loss record.

NU saw its impressive 34-game winning streak cut short by University of Santo Tomas with an opening day loss last Feb. 17, but since then, it quickly regained its winning touch and asserted its mastery over its succeeding rivals.

Setter Owa Retamar, who led four players to double-digit outings with his playmaking, came through with 22 excellent sets while firing three aces.
La Salle slipped to a 5-2 tally to close out the first-round action despite JM Ronquillo pacing the squad with 22 points, and Vince Maglinao contributing 13 points.
In the other match, UST survived Adamson in a dramatic five-set thriller, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-10.
The Golden Spikers untangled themselves from a three-way time with the Falcons and the Ateneo Blue Eagles and ended the first round with back-to-back wins with an improved 4-3 tally.
Adamson, for its part, skidded to 3-4.
Reigning Rookie-MVP Josh Ybañez led UST with 24 points highlighted by 21 attacks, while Gboy De Vega delivered 20 points including 18 kills.
Francis Casas led the way for Adamson with a 15-point outing, while John Gay and Marc Paulino had 14 and 12 points, respectively, in a losing cause.
