CEBU CITY – The Philippine Drug Enforcement-Central Visayas (PDEA-7) reported that 17.6 kilos of suspected shabu valued at more than P120 million have been seized in Region 7 (Central Visayas) in the first two months of the year.

PDEA-7 spokesperson Leia Alcantara said that the two-month haul was higher compared to the same period last year with 14.5 kilos of shabu.
Alcantara said the huge amount of shabu confiscated can be attributed to Central Visayas being the transhipment of illegal drugs.
Jonar Cuayzon, chief of the PDEA-7 Intelligence and Investigation Section, said operations continue to yield huge amount of shabu because of the high demand for illegal drugs. “It’s just like a business. There is a high demand,” said Cuayzon.
Based on monitoring, most of the seized shabu came from Region 4-A, Region 3, and National Capital Region, Cuazon said. These illegal drugs are brought to Cebu and other places in Central Visayas by land.
Strengthening border security is one of the measures that the PDEA-7 has been taking to prevent the smuggling of shabu into the province.
The PDEA-7 is also closely monitoring coastal areas. “We are closely working with the fisherfolk. We are asking for their help as our eyes and ears,” said Cuayzon.
