The Green Archers gave newcomer CCI-Yengskivel Crusaders a rude welcome with a 110-68 rout while the Red Lions preyed on Go Torrakku-St. Clare, 92-59, in the opening night of the six-team tournament.
Jonnel Policarpio led the attack for La Salle with an all-around showing of 22 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists as the Green Archers put the game away in the first two quarters and never looked back from there.
The Green Archers led by 28 at the break and established the biggest advantage of 42 points at the end of the final horn.
Aaron Buensalida chipped in 16 points while Elaijah Gollena and Cyrus Austria chalked up 15 and 14 points respectively.
Meanwhile, newcomer Bryan Sajonia from FEU fired 12 points to headline a balanced attack for the wards of coach Yuri Escueta, who topped the D-League prelims last season only to get swept by back-to-back champion EcoOil-La Salle in the finals.
Jomel Puno and team captain Yukien Andrada added 12 points apiece, Emmanuel Tagle had 11 while another transferee Penny Estacio, from La Salle, and NCAA Season 99 Finals MVP James Payosing chipped in eight each.
Dealing with the departure of ace guard Jacob Cortez to La Salle, San Beda started flat against a determined St. Clare unit with only a five-point lead after the opening salvo before shattering the gates wide open in the ensuing period.
