2 solons demand apology from Chong for threatening to slap First Lady

Two veteran members of the House of Representatives are demanding a public apology from former Biliran lone district Rep. Glenn Chong after he publicly threatened to slap in the face First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos. 

Angered and appalled by Chong's remarks were Surigao del Sur 2nd district Rep. Johnny Pimentel and Surigao del Norte 2nd district Rep. Robert Ace Barbers. 

"Yes I saw the video clip and I denounce his disrespect to the First Lady," said Pimentel, assistant minority leader of the powerful Commission on Appointments (CA). 

"We demand a public apology for Chong,' added the National Unity Party (NUP) stalwart. 

Pimentel's fellow Mindanaoan, Barbers, of the Nacionalista Party (NP), was just as offended by what he heard from Chong's month. 

"That is conduct unbecoming of a gentleman...Women's Month pa naman (It's even Women’s Month)," Barbers said. 

"Chong should apologize," underscored Barbers, longtime chairman of the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs. 

Chong made the threat to the slap the First Lady during the prayer rally in Manila Tuesday, March 12 that was organized by supporters of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) church leader Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.  

Chong, a lawyer, only served one term as Biliran congressman, specifically from 2007 to 2010. He sought re-election in 2010 and 2013, but lost twice to Rogelio Espina. 

He ran for senator during the 2019 midterm election, but lost.
