Truck hits, kills elderly rider in Manila

A 74-year-old motorcycle rider died after a tractor trailer truck accidentally hit him along Mabini Bridge (Nagtahan Bridge) in San Miguel, Manila, authorities reported on Thursday, March 14.

The Manila Police District (MPD) said that the accident occurred on Tuesday, March 12.

It identified the victim as Federico Tanael, a resident of Sampaloc, Manila.

According to the investigation, the truck was traveling along the southbound lane of the Nagtahan flyover at around 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police said that when the truck was about to reach the ascending portion of Mabini Bridge, its right portion accidentally hit and sideswiped the left side portion of the victim's motorcycle, which was traversing in the same direction.

Prior to the accident, a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed that the victim was about to change lanes and appeared to have not noticed the approaching truck.

Due to the strong impact, police said that the accident resulted in the victim's immediate death.

Meanwhile, authorities said that the family of the victim has decided not to file a case against the truck driver.
