Mayor Ronnie Dadivas issued Executive Order No. 11, Series of 2024, suspending classes in public and private schools from preschool to senior high school following the recommendation from the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) after the State weather bureau warned of a 42 degrees Celsius heat index in the city.
“This is classified as dangerous, which may cause or lead to dangerous heat-related disorders with prolonged exposure or physical activity,” said Dadivas.
“The Roxas City Schools Division of the Department of Education (DepEd) is advised to adopt blended and alternative instructional or learning modalities during the two-day suspension,” Dadivas said.
“Cancellation of classes for tertiary levels is at the discretion of their respective college or university presidents.”
The heat wave in Roxas City and the rest of Panay Island started on March 7 when the heat index registered more than 40 degrees Celsius.
The Dadivas administration is further suspending face-to-face classes if the heat wave continues and will only resume once the heat index drops below 40 degrees Celsius.
