House Speaker Martin Romualdez has described as President Marcos' overseas schedule as "punishing" amid the claim of former president Rodrigo Duterte that his successor has been going out for leisure's sake. 

“The punishing schedule of engagements of President Marcos during these trips underscores his unwavering commitment to serving the Filipino people and promoting our nation's prosperity on the global stage,” Romualdez, leader of the 300-plus strong House of Representatives, said in a statement Thursday, March 14. 

Marcos is currently in the latter half of a back-to-back trip to Germany (working visit) and Czech Republic (state visit). 

“President Marcos's unwavering dedication and tireless work ethic have undoubtedly brought about positive impacts, not only in terms of economic opportunities and in strengthening diplomatic ties but also in creating thousands of job opportunities for Filipino workers,” added Romualdez, a regular companion of the incumbent President in these high-stakes trips.

On Wednesday, March 13, Romualdez commended President Marcos for securing investment deals worth at least $4 billion during his Germany trip.  

The investment deals include three letters of intent (LOI) from different German companies, two memoranda of agreement, and three memoranda of understanding (MOU). 

Recently, former president Duterte called Marcos' foreign trips as "pasyal nang pasyal", which roughly means always going out for leisure. 

The Duterte administration last from 2016 to 2022. Marcos is his direct successor.
