After a successful pipe replacement in parts of Caloocan, Valenzuela, Pasay, and Bacoor, Cavite, west zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. completed its network rehabilitation in 2023.

The P3 billion worth of project was able to replace 143 kilometers of aging and leaking pipelines which, as a result, boosted water pressure and service reliability for consumers living in the said areas.

Over 33 million liters per day (MLD) of potable water supply have been recovered, as Maynilad projected that this would improve their service to 200,000 customers in Metro Manila.

According to the water company, the pipes were around 50 to 300 millimeters (mm) and were already past 15 years old.

Randolph T. Estrellado, Maynilad chief operating officer, said that the rehabilitation investment enhanced the concessionaire’s water distribution.

“This is particularly crucial, as we aim to generate more supply through water loss recovery so that our service will not be unduly affected despite El Niño,” he added.

Furthermore, the water firm plans to replace 78 percent of old inherited pipes in the next three years. In comparison, the existing pipeline is as long as the distance between Manila and Tokyo, Japan.

“Since its re-privatization in 2007, Maynilad has already replaced around 69 percent—or around 3,200 kilometers—of the old pipelines that it inherited from the government upon re-privatization in 2007,” Maynilad stated.

To this day, Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the country under the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) because of its customer base.

The water company services the Western Metro Manila, including Manila, Quezon City, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, Malabon, Cavite, and Cavite provinces.
