Responding to unclear conversations by nodding mindlessly and forcing a smile may indicate early signs of hearing loss, which we tend to ignore.
In a startling projection for 2050, the World Health Organization anticipates disabling hearing loss, defined as hearing loss exceeding 35 decibels (dB) in the better-hearing ear, among 700 million people — equivalent to one in every 10 individuals.
In a mission to help curb the said forecast and promote hearing care, Manila Hearing Aid (MHA) and Phonak recently launched the Lumity series, a curated range of lifestyle-centric hearing aids designed to address varying degrees of auditory loss.

“We aim to be the foremost provider of hearing care services in the Philippines,” said MHA President Dr. Liza Abaño-Robles. “Our main goal is to send a message that hearing wellness is just as important and should be considered as part of one’s overall health.”
MHA and Phonak hear you
Since 1976, MHA has provided auditory care through its network of 16 clinics nationwide. Its partnership with Phonak, a global player in innovative hearing solutions founded in 1947, aims to integrate improved hearing into daily activities and conversations, which birthed the hearing aids.
MHA and Phonak launched the Lumity hearing aids on February 27, 2024 in Cebu. The Lumity line strives to provide an effortless auditory experience, whether engaging in meaningful conversations or amid ambient noise, to help hear the sounds that count.
“Many Filipinos tend to downplay hearing loss or even consider it as unnoticeable. Our commitment is to provide top-of-the-line, and the most advanced and strategically tech-driven audiological products that enhance the quality of life through improved hearing,” said Abaño-Robles.
The Lumity series
The selection offers Slim, Naida, Cros, and Audeo Life hearing aids. Some unique features include Naida’s customizable settings for specific listening situations and enhanced noise cancellation for moderate to severe hearing loss. Audeo Life is tagged as the first rechargeable waterproof hearing aid, and Cros is designed for individuals with incurable hearing loss in one ear.
“With cutting-edge features like the AutoSense 5.0, speech sensor, and steer-zoom features, Phonak's commitment to enhancing hearing experiences is evident in this new product line,” she added.
Lumity features a much-improved speech understanding in noisy environments, positioning itself as an "all-around hearing care solution.” Launching this month, the products seek to elevate the hearing care market with crafted solutions for every patient's auditory needs.
Function meets style with Slim Lumity
Older hearing aids were bulky; fortunately, dedication to craft and technology has brought about easy-to-wear alternatives. The spotlight falls on Lumity line’s star product, Phonak Slim Lumity, which received the 2023 Hearing Technology Innovator award from Hearing Health and Technology Matters in the hearing aid design category.
Serving beyond clinical purposes, Slim displays a sleek, stylish ergonomic design that fits the contours of the ears naturally. It comes in four color combinations: silver-black, graphite-black, sandalwood-black, and copper-black.
“We're always ready to assist patients and give them the best outcome for the particular hearing aid they need. They visit our clinic for follow-ups and ask about any small problem. Our service comes from the heart," said Susan Javier, MHA Clinic training consultant.
The star product is paired with Roger On, a wireless microphone that helps individuals engage in conversations clearly over distance or in group settings. Lumity’s top product charges fully in three hours for whole-day use.
We tend to take our hearing for granted; nonetheless, the Lumity line provides a sliver of hope, proving MHA’s commitment to enabling Filipinos with the right hearing care solutions for better health.
