BAGUIO CITY – The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) is ready to implement Republic Act 11983 or the Amendments to the Centenarians Act of 2016.

OCSWD Officer Liza Bulayunga said they are just awaiting the guidelines to implement the law which provides a P10,000 cash gift for Filipinos when they are 80, 85, 90, and 95-years-old.
At present, this city has 1,077 potential beneficiaries and Bulayunga advised octogenarians and nonagenarians who stand to benefit from the law to wait for further advice on how they can use the incentive.
Bulayunga said there are 848 residents here aged 80 to 89 and 229 aged 90 to 99.
She said that according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the law has just been approved and will require implementing rules and regulations before it can be implemented.
Residents are hopeful that the IRRs would be swiftly released. "I hope that the guidelines can be released quickly so that my mother who is now 96-years-old can taste the government's aid for senior citizens. In fact, my mother is sick right now and this program is a great help in the medical field," said Alice Yambot.
RA 11983, An Act Granting Benefits to Filipino Octogenarians and Nonagenarians, was approved by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on February 26.
The law expanded the scope of RA 10868, or the Centenarians Act, which provides a cash gift of P100,000 for Filipinos who reach the age of 100 years. It also creates an Elderly Data Management System.
