Political rallies masquerading as prayer rallies should not be allowed until during the election campaign period.
Aklan 2nd district Rep. Teodorico Haresco Jr. made this appeal Wednesday, March 13, even as he warned certain individuals against using God’s name for personal and political gain ahead of the 2025 midterm elections.
“Sana itong mga political rallies, according sa Comelec (Commission on Elections), [election] period na lang. Saka na lang muna mag-rally-rally at saka hindi na gamitin in God’s name iyong mga whatever personal or political objectives,” Haresco said in a press conference.
(I hope these political rallies, according to Comelec, be allowed only during election period. Put off these rallies for now and don't use God's name in whatever personal or political objectives you want to achieve.)
Haresco issued the statement in response to questions about the pro-Pastor Apollo Quiboloy rally in Manila on Tuesday, March 12.
In attendance were several senators and former president Rodrigo Duterte, who criticized President Marcos and his alleged plan to extend his term through Charter change (Cha-cha).

Haresco says Duterte's tirade seems unfounded, as Congress is currently only discussing economic-themed constitutional reforms, with no indication of plans for term extension. Quiboloy is Duterte's spiritual adviser.
By October this year, election hopefuls would need to file their certificates of candidacy (COC). The midterm polls will take place in May 2025.
Also joining the Manila prayer rally was Vice President Sara Duterte.
