Salo hails return of 11 Pinoy seafarers who survived Red Sea attack

Kabayan Party-list Rep. Ron Salo has hailed the safe return of 11 Filipino seafarers who were aboard the commercial vessel that was attacked by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea last month.
Salo, chairman of the House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs, joined the officials who welcomed the brave seafarers back in the country Tuesday, March 13 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Two Filipinos died from the ballistic missile strike on M/V True Confidence in the Gulf of Aden last March March 6.
Salo extended his deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased, even as he expressed relief at the safe return of the 11 seafarers.
“Their resilience and fortitude amidst adversity serve as a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Filipino people,” Salo stated.
“However, we must actively pursue measures to ensure the adequate protection of our Filipino seafarers. I earnestly hope that the Magna Carta of Seafarers, which we are advocating for, will be soon be enacted into law to provide further safeguards for our seafarers navigating the world’s seas,” the OFW rights advocate added.

The veteran lawmaker also acknowledged the prompt and coordinated efforts of various government agencies in ensuring the safe repatriation and well-being of the sailors.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the DMW, DFA, OWWA, Philippine Embassy in Cairo, DOH, and DSWD for their unwavering commitment and assistance to our kababayans during this challenging time,” Salo said.
Salo also thanked the Fleet Management Services Phil, Inc., the seafarers’ manning agency, for their assistance in ensuring the safe and immediate return of the seafarers.
