From their epic debut at the Head in the Clouds concert last December 2022, the Japanese girl group Atarashii Gakko! is just getting started.

Consisting of Suzuka, Kanon, Mizyu, and Rin, the group Atarashii Gakko! is known for their matching school uniform outfits and quirky music representing Japanese culture.

During an exclusive interview with Manila Bulletin Entertainment last Feb. 25, the group shared that they plan to collaborate with OPM singer-songwriter Unique Salonga.

"Particularly Unique Salonga, they are interested and intrigued, we sometimes want to collaborate with him,” the translator said explaining the answer of Suzuka.

Atarashii Gakko! has set another non-stop performance at the Bobapalooza Music and Arts Festival 2024 held at the Filinvest City Event Grounds last Feb. 24 and 25.

Carving their way on the music scene with their song "Tokyo Calling", the group shared how they came up with the concept.

"They were talking to their producers, Yongki and Yoshiyo, and they were discussing what's next for Atarashii Gakko!. And one of the things they were discussing is the next step is to grow big for Atarashii Gakko and tell the world about them. That's where the concept came up for the song, and they also talked about the music video where they incorporated some Japanese culture," the translator said explaining the answer of Mizyu.

Working together as a J-pop group for 10 years, Suzuka shared their secret on how they keep their relationship working.

"They are all good friends, and they communicate well with each other when it comes to serious talks, and they made sure after their performance they share how they feel. Aside from their work, they also share stories about their personal lives," the translator said.

Aside from "Tokyo Calling", the group also released a single called "Hello" via 88rising Records. The song embraces an empowered punk-inspired sound with suave lyricism and greetings in several languages, including German, Japanese, Chinese, English, and Spanish.

Set to striking percussion and super guitar riffs, Atarashii Gakko! welcome fans and demonstrate their global appeal in any language, wherever they are.

Atarashii Gakko! became an international sensation after making their debut at the US late-night television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The group also showcased their inimitable performance style on their first worldwide Seishun Tour, which sold out completely in the U.S., and at music festivals like Mexico City’s Corona Capital Festival.

Their aggressive and expressive dance moves, which they choreograph themselves, are a hybrid of the energy of Japanese butoh dance, heavy metal headbanging, and hip-hop street dancing.

Musically, AG! brings together elements of modern J-Pop, Showa-era kayokyoku, rap, punk, dance music, but it would be pointless to try to categorize them in any genre.

This year, the group are set to play their first-ever Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival with sets on April 14 and 21.
