Her Excellency Megawati Manan, ambassador of the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in the Philippines, recently hosted a dinner reception to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the National Day of Brunei Darussalam at the Mayuree Grand Ballroom of Dusit Thani Manila.

Welcoming and acknowledging guests, embassy friends, and members of the Diplomatic Corps who took the time to join the celebration, Ambassador Manan shared that the guest of honor, DFA Undersecretary for Civilian Security and Consular Affairs Jesus "Gary" S. Domingo, is no stranger to Brunei as he grew up there when his late father, His Excellency Dr. Benjamin B. Domingo, was the first Filipino ambassador to Brunei upon their independence.

Brunei has come a long way to be a free nation and the occasion is to appreciate their journey toward independence.

This year also marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brunei and the Philippines. Both countries enjoy cooperation in various fields, including defense, trade, health, education, culture, tourism, and human resources. In fact, there are approximately 26,000 Overseas Filipino Workers currently in Brunei, contributing to the socio-economic development and growth.

Ambassador Manan added, "We seek to strengthen these relationships as Brunei embarks on its role as host to the ASEAN Centre for Climate Change. I believe many of ASEAN's dialog partners and external partners many of whom are represented here tonight have a positive role to play in this regard."

She concluded her message by recognizing the efforts of the embassy staff stating, "But before I end this speech, I would like to take this opportunity to express my biggest gratitude to the wonderful staff of the Brunei Embassy. I owe the success of this event to all of you."
