Cabatbat insists he is the true voice of Pinoy farmers; awaits SC ruling

Former Ang Magsasaka Party-list Rep. Argel Cabatbat expressed hope on Wednesday, March 13 that the Supreme Court (SC) will honor the will of Filipinos farmers as he awaits the decision on his election. 

"Malaki ang respeto at pagkilala natin sa galing at kakayanan ng ating hukuman. Tiwala tayong mananaig ang tama para sa magsasakang Pilipino,” said Cabatbat, a lawyer. 

(I have huge respect and recognition for the wisdom and capabilities of our court. I'm confident that the right decision for the Filipino farmer will prevail.) 

In 2022, the High Court issued a status quo ante order on a Commission on Elections (Comelec) decision to proclaim an illegitimate candidate as the party-list representative. 

Cabatbat and farmers welcomed this act safeguarding their votes. 

"Minsan nang nagdesisyon ang Korte para sa ating panig, at naniniwala ako na kikilalanin tayo bilang tunay na kinatawan ng magsasakang Pilipino," he noted. 

(The Court has decided once in our favor, and I believe that we will be recognized as the true representative of the Filipino farmer.)

Cabatbat said that despite not having a physical office, he still continues to assist local farmers whenever he can. "Wala tayong sinayang na oras, dahil bawat araw, ipinaglalaban natin ang kaunlaran at karapatan ng mga magsasaka." 

(We wasted no time, because we fight for the development and rights of the farmers.) 

He thanked his supporters and reminded them to have faith in the system. 

"Maniwala po tayo sa integridad ng Korte Suprema, at sa prinsipyo mg ating mga hukom. Patuloy po tayong nagserserbisyo sa sektor ng agrikultura, at lahat ng ating pagkilos ay sinisigurado na maibabalik ang tunay na boses ng magsasaka sa Kongreso,” he said. 

(Believe in the Supreme Court's integrity and in the principles of the judges. We continue to serve the agriculture sector, and all our actions are geared toward assuring that the true voice of the farmers returns to Congress.)
