Prevalence of “vog” or volcanic smog was observed over the Taal Caldera since 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs said the areas affected by vog include Agoncillo, Laurel, Balete, Sta. Teresita, Calaca, Mabini, Mataasnakahoy, Lemery, San Nicolas, and Talisay, Batangas.
Meanwhile, Phivolcs said it recorded a total of 6,387 tons of volcanic sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission per day from the Taal Main Crater as of March 11.
Moreover, one volcano-tectonic earthquake with a duration of two minutes was only recorded on March 12, said Phivolcs.
Taal Volcano remained under Alert Level 1, which means steam-driven phreatic or gas-driven explosions may occur.
