Communist arms stash unearthed in Escalante City

BACOLOD CITY – The 79th Infantry Battalion dug up a communist arms cache in Sitio Mocabog, Barangay Washington, Escalante City, Negros Occidental on Monday, March 11.

TROOPS discovered a communist weapons cache in Barangay Washington, Escalante City, Negros Occidental on Monday, March 11, days after a series of encounters with the dismantled Northern Negros Front (NNF-D) remnants in Barangay Pinapugasan, Escalante City last month. (79th IB)

Soldiers were conducting continuous Focus Military Operations (FMO) in the area when they received information about the hidden weapons from the community.

The weapons stash was found following a series of encounters between the military and the dismantled Northern Negros Front (NNF-D) in which three New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed and high-powered firearms were recovered in Barangay Pinapugasan last month.

Lt. Col. Arnel Calaoagan, 79th IB commander, assured the people that they will sustain their gains toward a shared aspiration of having a Stable Internal Peace and Security (SIPS) situation in Negros Island.

Calaoagan said that their commitment remains brighter as ever and will always be a beacon that remind the enemy of their option to either surrender while they have time or face the consequences of their actions.

The Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) of Negros Occidental recently approved a resolution officially declaring the province under SIPS.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, PPOC chairman, signed the resolution during the first quarter Joint Peace Provincial Peace and Order Council and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) meeting at the Social Hall of the Provincial Capitol here on March 7.

The document was signed in the presence of PPOC officials and members, Provincial Director Teodora Sumagaysay of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Col. Victor Llapitan, deputy brigade commander of Army 303rd Infantry Brigade (IBde), Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), mayors, heads of other government agencies, and the private sector.
