The settlement was facilitated by the 45th Infantry Battalion led by Lt. Col. Michael Colanta and local government officials in Ungkaya Pukan, Tipo-Tipo, and Al-Barka.
All members of both parties submitted themselves to the formal peace and reconciliation ceremony by signing an amicable settlement document. They also sealed their commitment with handshakes and embraces to show sincerity to the agreement.
Brig. Gen. Alvin V. Luzon, commander of the 101st Infantry (Three Red Arrows) Brigade, lauded the local government executives of Ungkaya Pukan, Tipo-Tipo, and Al-Barka for unceasingly pursuing a peaceful resolution of the internal conflicts in their municipalities.
He thanked all the organizations that supported the 101st Infantry Brigade's security campaign to achieve long-lasting peace in the island-province of Basilan.
“This reconciliation is a testament to the power of dialogue and mutual understanding. Rest assured, your Trajan troopers and the Philippine Army will continue to find ways to settle all the remaining community-based conflicts. With your help, we can make this happen. Let us always remember that culture of violence is not part of the heritage of the Basileños,” he added.
The rido was sparked by an unresolved rape case in Barangay Tipo-Tipo Proper in Tipo-Tipo last November.
The suspect from Barangay Guinunta in Al-Barka was killed, triggering the families of the victim and the suspect to fight each other due to speculations.
