In a statement issued on March 10, or a week after the incident, the Taguig Police said Zhao is facing multiple charges, including kidnapping, in Parañaque last year.
They said that in BGC, Zhao “opened fire at arresting police officers and attempted to flee on a sport utility vehicle. This led to a brief chase and armed encounter resulting in the suspect's injury.”
He was arrested on 31st Street near the BGC bus depot and was taken to the St. Luke's Medical Center Global City for treatment.
PNP-AKG Director Brig. Gen. Cosme Abrenica said Zhao will also face charges of attempted homicide and illegal possession of firearms.
