House Speaker Martin Romualdez has praised the Filipino masses or "masa" for embodying the "strength and determination that define the Filipino spirit".
Romualdez had this to say Monday, March 11 in reaction to the results of the Tugon ng Masa survey, which showed that 77 percent of adult Filipinos expressed their readiness to defend the country in the face of a conflict with a foreign enemy.
But in terms of socioeconomic classes, the survey revealed that a higher percentage of adult Filipinos belonging to "Class D", at 80 percent were willing to fight for the country.
"The survey results affirm the unwavering dedication of our people, particularly those in Class D, who embody the strength and determination that define the Filipino spirit,” Romualdez said.
“Their willingness to defend our country is a testament to their selflessness and love for our fellow citizens,” the Speaker said of the so-called "masa" sector.
The Tugon ng Masa survey was carried out by OCTA Research from Dec. 10 to 14, 2023.
The nationwide survey covered all socioeconomic classes, from Class AB, C, D, to E. Those belonging to AB are the most affluent, while those in E are the poorest.
“We are deeply moved and inspired by the overwhelming willingness of adult Filipinos to fight for our country,” Romualdez, the leader of the 300 plus-strong House of Representatives, said.
“This unwavering commitment to safeguarding our sovereignty and protecting our people is a testament to the indomitable spirit that lies within every Filipino,” he added.
Then Leyte 1st district congressman said, "These survey results demonstrate the deep-rooted love and loyalty that Filipinos have for our homeland. It is truly heartening to witness such a strong sense of national pride."
The survey findings also highlighted regional variations in willingness to fight for the country. Mindanao exhibited the highest percentage at 84 percent, followed by Balance Luzon at 79 percent, National Capital Region (NCR) at 76 percent, and Visayas at 62 percent.
